It was wonderful to get to do this striking Union Station photoshoot to celebrate Lexsey and Red’s engagement. There’s something magical about getting to see a space that is usually so busy and full of life suddenly empty and still! Lexsey matched the grandeur of the venue in her beautiful floor-length gown. It helped us to really embrace the drama of the Union Station photoshoot in an elegant way.
These two have the sweetest bond, and it turns out that they actually have a long history. Lexsey explained: “We grew up in the same neighborhood – he’s four years older but we always knew of each other. My sister, who is the same age as Red, begged me to come to a college party she was throwing. I decided at the last minute to go and my sister “reintroduced” me and Red and the rest is history! I call us college sweethearts.”
As much as we loved the clean lines and dramatic symmetry of the station, it was actually exploring the smaller details that made this Union Station photoshoot so memorable. The green-and-gold paneling in the foyer proved to be the perfect backdrop for some close-up shots. I loved the idea that this feature that thousands of people walk by every day without a second thought could, with the right eye, end up being part of something beautiful.
I love D.C. and it’s always a pleasure to get to feature some of the iconic architecture here in my photography work. Check out these exquisite Washington D.C engagement photos for a glimpse into what an engagement shoot on Capitol Hill could be like!
